Stress and Your Skin

Posted by Mei Zen Skin Care on Aug 5th 2017

Stress is a part of everyday life. We know stress can cause restlessness, fatigue, and increased irritability but how does stress affect our skin? First and foremost, it's best to try and manage stress but we know how hard that can be (great tips at the bottom of blog!). In the meantime, what about stress, our skin and managing the effects?

PUFFY EYES

When stressed, we worry and our minds are on “GO” 24/7, disrupting our sleep pattern. When we don’t get a good night’s rest, fluid can gather under the eyes resulting in puffiness and bags.

WHAT TO DO?

Apply Mei Zen Skin Care Wakame Stem Cell Eye Cream morning and night. A nourishing cream comprised of Chinese herbs, peptides, and plant stem cells that treats dark circles and puffiness. Learn more…

FINE LINES AND WRINKLES

The “stress” hormone, cortisol, damages collagen. When collagen is damaged, it becomes weak and the skin begins to sag and form fine lines and wrinkles. For skin to repair itself and promote healthy collagen, the excess cortisol needs to be eliminated (acupuncture is great to help manage stress and relieve cortisol formation!).

WHAT TO DO?

Morning and night, apply Mei Zen Skin Care Goji Berry and Argan Cream to help prevent wrinkles and preserve youthful skin. Formulated with Cassia Angustifolia Seed, a polysaccharide that aids in skin repair, this cream helps support structure and elasticity. Learn more…

DRY SKIN

While focusing on stress, you may not be paying attention to your diet. Maybe you’re drinking too much coffee (especially if you are not sleeping!) and not drinking enough water causing dehydration. Dehydration can cause dry, dull skin.

WHAT TO DO?

Mei Zen Skin Care Yin Balancing Facial Serum is a quick absorbing serum formulated to protect skin from moisture evaporation. This serum is rich in beta carotene, vitamins, and essential fatty acids. Apply morning and night. Learn more…

ACNE

Cortisol also throws off the other hormones in your body that can cause breakouts on your face and body. Increased cortisol also prompts the sebaceous glands to produce more oil making skin more prone to breakouts.

WHAT TO DO?

Wash with Mei Zen Skin Care Kissed by Bees Cleanser.  A special mixture of organic aloe, coconut milk, and honey creates a gentle yet effective antibacterial and antimicrobial cleanser that fights current blemishes and prevents new breakouts. Learn more…
